Carpenter and Owen triumph.

HOME pair Ross Owen and Phil Carpenter won the Molson Coors-sponsored Harlequins Men's Open Pairs Tournament last weekend and in doing so lifted the trophy, silver salvers and a pounds 500 cheque.

In their semi-final they overcame David L Davies (Merthyr West End) and Steve Jackson Steve Jackson can refer to:

  • Steve Jackson (UK), founder of the company Games Workshop with Ian Livingstone and games reviewer
 (Penhill) 19-15.

The other semi was a one-sided encounter where Troedyrhiw's David K Jones and Lee Morgan Lee Morgan (10 July, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - 19 February, 1972 in New York City) was an American hard bop trumpeter. Life and career
Morgan was a jazz prodigy, first picking up the trumpet on about the age of thirteeen or so, after developing an interest in
 proved far too strong for the Guest Memorial duo of Nathan Scoot and Aeron Guess, the latter conceding when trailing 22-2. In the final, Owen and Carpenter again started well, building a 21-7 lead after 11 ends, with Owen bowling particularly well.

The Troedyrhiw pair did respond reducing the lead to eight shots, but Owen and Carpenter held on to win 27-20. The WBA's national club championship, the Carruthers Shield, reaches its climax on Saturday when the last four teams from an original entry of almost 300 each hope to be crowned the champion club of Wales for 2009.

Both semi-finals (9.30am) and final (2pm approx) will once again be hosted by Llandrindod Wells Llandrindod Wells
