Keaveney's appointment is the latest in a series of recent organizational moves in the specialty metals manufacturer's sales and marketing group. They reflect the company's intention to grow its core metals business both in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and abroad.

As recently as 1991, Carpenter had a modest international business: About 6 percent of sales -- or about $34 million that year -- were generated outside the United States. This fiscal year, sales of more than $100 million are expected to come from Canada, Europe, Asia and Latin America Latin America, the Spanish-speaking, Portuguese-speaking, and French-speaking countries (except Canada) of North America, South America, Central America, and the West Indies. .

The organizational changes have consolidated all specialty metals sales worldwide under Keaveney, who previously was responsible for international (non-United States) sales and marketing. In an earlier announcement, Michael L. Shor, 36, was named general manager - global marketing and product services. Both men are part of Carpenter's Steel Division, which in fiscal 1995 accounted for $686 million in sales.

Shor and Keaveney report to Richard L. Santoro, vice president - Sales and Marketing, Steel Division.

During his 25-year career with Carpenter, Keaveney has held a number of sales and marketing positions. He holds a BA in history and political science from Bridgewater State College History
