Carp anglers leading the way.

While coarse angling is still upbeat, carp anglers are doing particularly well with the TAA's Killingworth Lake producing quality fish while on Crofton, CADCAC bailiff bailiff

Catterick Lakes are still fishing well with recent raids by Newcastle carpers Dave Lee and John Storer proving successful with John going on to catch a superb 22lb specimen.

Feeder is proving to be the best method of tempting roach at Hury. The feeder should be filled with sweetcorn and also a sprinkling of "Magic Dust" which is basically a ground-up fish feed that has a very strong aroma.

Coarse anglers who visit the NW shop at Grassholme specifically to buy Magic Dust swear by this product as a great attractor to lure the roach close to their main bait. Brian Barker reported a good catch near the Boil Pipe which included roach well over the 1lb mark, using worm.

Kevin Taylor fished peg 20 recently and accounted for 51 tench from 10oz to 6lb 2oz using shellfish as bait. Junior Anthony Longstaff also used shellfish to record the best fish of the night during the Junior fishings, a beautiful mirror carp of 7lb.

Sunday's match on Whittle Dene was won by Steve Wood with 7lb 14oz made up of 104 fish.

Sunday's Open on Lookout Lake saw Andy Simpson winning with a creditable 59lb 5oz from peg 29. Mark Arrowsmith was runner-up with 49lb 13oz and Jeff Layton third with 48lb 10oz.

On Bowes, the Bank Holiday Open was won by Derek Fox with 35lb 11oz from peg 17 ahead of Mark Arrowsmith with 25lb 7oz and third was Jeff Layton with 15lb 13oz.

Now around 15,000 fish are ready to return to Ennerdale to boost the population. Fisheries officer Suzi Hawkins said: "It is likely that Ennerdale's charr are genetically different because they have long been an isolated population, and they are the only charr population in England which spawn exclusively in the burns that feed the lake."
