Blaming the sluggish economy Sluggish Economy

 Inc., a privately held cable- and phone-service start-up, has mothballed plans to launch operations in Charlotte and Raleigh. The company laid off 88 of its 110 employees in June -- 64 in Charlotte and 24 in Raleigh -- as it announced it was delaying construction of fiber-optic networks in both cities. Carolina Broadband moved from Boston to Charlotte last year and landed cable-TV franchises in Charlotte and Raleigh. It raised $402 million in venture capital to start building the networks, with which it planned to offer cable, Internet and telephone service in competition with companies such as Time Warner Cable This article or section needs sources or references that appear in reliable, third-party publications.
