Carol Winborne. (Association News).


East Central Division President-elect Carol Winborne, 58, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, died September 8, 2002.

Carol earned a bachelor of music degree from Saint Andrews Presbyterian College in 1966 and a master of music degree from Illinois Wesleyan University History and academics

Carol worked tirelessly in many leadership roles for MTNA. On the national level, she chaired the Independent Music Teachers Forum (IMTF) for four years. She was appointed to the National Conference Program Steering Committee for 2002-2003. Locally, she was a founding member of the Oshkosh Keyboard Teachers Association, filling the role of president more than once. She served as president of the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association (WMTA), in addition to volunteering as auditions chairperson and as a member of many committees and task forces.

Teaching piano in her independent studio since 1974, Carol co-founded the Winborne-Shaw Piano Studio in 1977 with Carmen Shaw. She was a full-time faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh History
In 1871 the university began as Oshkosh State Normal School. The university was Wisconsin's third teacher-training school. Oshkosh Normal began the first state normal school in the United States to have a kindergarten.
 from 1971 to 1974, teaching applied piano, piano classes and piano pedagogy. She continued at the university as an ad hoc faculty member, teaching piano classes, music appreciation and elements of music. Carol also was a clinician, adjudicator and mentor for teacher development. The Winborne-Shaw Duo frequently performed repertoire for piano-four hands, and for two pianos.
