(CCI CCI Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie (France) CCI CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) Citation Index CCI Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Western Australia) ) was awarded a place on the synagogue's donor wall during a ceremony held Sunday, March 30, 2003. The wall, which was constructed by CCI, is fashioned from sandstone imported from Jerusalem and serves as both an external wall near the entrance and an internal wall in the main hall of the synagogue synagogue (sĭn`əgŏg) [Gr.,=assembly], in Judaism, a place of assembly for worship, education, and communal affairs. The origins of the institution are unclear. One tradition dates it to the Babylonian exile of the 6th cent. B.C. . The Aish HaTorah in Los Angeles is part of a global network of programs created by American-born Rabbi Noah Weinberg This biographical article or section needs additional references for verification. Weinberg founded Aish HaTorah in 1974 to combat the large numbers of Jews who were leaving the faith. From its beginning in one small apartment in Jerusalem's Old City, Aish has become today a premier resource for Jews who long for intelligent answers to important life questions. Completed earlier this year, the Aish HaTorah synagogue in Los Angeles is a classic blend of religious tradition with modern design and building techniques. Perhaps the most striking feature, apart from the sandstone wall, is the main sanctuary of the 5,500-square-foot facility, which accommodates between 300 and 500 people at a time, and can be divided using a pair of massive, one-of-a-kind doors. These doors, which each weigh about 7,000 pounds, had to be created specifically for the building since no off-the-shelf door existed. "There are no doors like this anywhere," says Peter Carniglia, president of Carniglia Construction. "We worked extensively with engineers at Kreigel Doors to develop the system." Once built, the doors had to be installed after the main structure had already been completed.
