Carnegie Learning Teacher Corps Launches Nationwide Network of Teachers Support and Train New Users of the Cognitive Tutor.

Carnegie Learning, Inc., the first company to develop proven, integrated print and software curricula that increase math test scores by uniting students, teachers and cognitive tutor software, today announced the successful launch of its Teacher Corps(TM) program. Teacher Corps is a nationwide community of active and former mathematics teachers certified to support prospective and new users of Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutors(TM). Once Teacher Corps representatives are certified, they will be responsible for curriculum training, professional development and other educational activities.

Three Levels of Teacher Participation

Teacher Corps representatives fall into three categories: Certified Instructors, ShowStoppers and Friends of Carnegie Learning. Instructors are certified to train new users of the Cognitive Tutor, during intensive four-day training at new implementation sites. ShowStoppers support Carnegie Learning activities at educational conferences and provide curriculum workshops and seminars. Friends of Carnegie Learning participate in various education community- building activities such as contributing to User Group meetings and special discussion forums in person and online. In addition, Teacher Corps partners test new software and curricula, write new curriculum problems and provide other services that leverage their educational backgrounds.

Certification programs began earlier this year and will continue to be offered on a regular basis. JN4D, an educational curriculum and training company with a client list including Apple (Nasdaq:AAPL), National Semiconductor (NYSE:NSM) and Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT), was responsible for pre-qualifying teacher applications and conducting interviews prior to the session. Additional training sessions are taking place this summer. By mid-July, Carnegie Learning expects to have a substantial national team of Certified Instructors.

Teacher Corps ShowStoppers are certified volunteers for Carnegie Learning who represent the company at educational conferences as well as provide outreach to new users. "Education leaders have identified professional development as one of the most important issues affecting teachers today," said Laidley. "The Teacher Corps ShowStoppers program gives teachers representing Carnegie Learning the opportunity to further their professional development by attending educational conferences and events free of charge," she added. In return for the ShowStoppers' support, Carnegie Learning pays for their travel, meals and conference registration fees.

Friends of Carnegie Learning provide another level of support to the education community, through communications to new and potential users of the Cognitive Tutor. These Friends also have used the curriculum and can provide first-hand knowledge in settings such as User Groups, online chat rooms and networking events. Carnegie Learning expects that hundreds of teachers will join the ranks of the Teacher Corps in the coming months.
