Carnegie Learning Exec Elected To Top Software Industry Board.

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 20, 2001

Libby Preble, Carnegie Learning Carnegie Learning, Inc. is a publisher of math curriculum for middle school, high school, and post-secondary students. The company uses a blended approach, with a textbook and software (called Cognitive Tutor) for each subject.  Inc.'s vice president of sales, has been elected to the Software Information Industry Association (SIIA (Software & Information Industry Association, Washington, DC, www.siia.net) A trade organization devoted to the health and welfare of the software and digital content industry by providing support in government relations, business development, education and intellectual property ) 2001-2002 Education Division Board for a two-year term.

SIIA is the largest and most respected software industry association and its members include nearly every player in the educational software, technology and publishing arena.

The prestigious elected position will allow Preble -- along with the 15 other members -- to lead the Education Division of SIIA -- a group of more than 350 member companies in the educational technology market. Board members are responsible for the overall direction of the division, including budgeting and determining projects, activities and events. SIIA works to bring together these companies in expanding market opportunities and understanding business models, technological advancements, industry trends, governmental policies and best practices.

Preble also feels that this appointment will allow her to play a key role in shaping the ever-changing educational technology industry. For more than 20 years, Preble has been involved in the educational technology and publishing area, combined with experience teaching in public schools and community colleges. Prior to joining Carnegie Learning in 1999, she served as vice president of sales and marketing at Course Technology, part of Thomson Publishing. Preble also held management roles at IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , where she managed customer loyalty programs, and spent 13 years at Apple Computer Inc., in a variety of key management capacities with a focus on the K-12 and higher education higher education
