Instead of presenting a series of classes in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics in tracks for advanced, average, and remedial curricula, will co-host a conference with the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency's "Enhancing Education Through Technology (E2T2)" Consortium on technology and learning on February 2nd, 2005, in their Conference Center in Bettendorf, Iowa Bettendorf is a city in Scott County, Iowa, United States. The population was 31,275 at the 2000 census. The 2006 estimates shows slight growth to 32,394. It is one of the Quad Cities. . Through a federal grant, the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency's E2T2 Consortium purchased Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor Algebra I curriculum to open the gateway to advanced math courses and improve student mathematics comprehension and skills. The primary goal of the conference is to share the AEA's successful implementation of technology in the mathematics classroom with regional school districts, administrators and math teachers. The keynote speaker will be Ken Koedinger PhD, one of the nation's top cognitive scientists, who has devoted his life to cognitive research and development. Koedinger currently co-directs Carnegie Mellon University's Pittsburgh Advanced Cognitive Tutor Center (PACT) and is a co-founder of Carnegie Learning, Inc. Dr. Koedinger's website: http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~pact/koedinger.html provides additional information about his research work. He and John Anderson were reviewers for the National Research Council's new mathematics publication, "Adding It up: Helping Children Learn Mathematics." "This conference will be an excellent opportunity for educators to meet and share student success stories that result from the successful integration of technology and learning," commented Ingrid Ellerbe, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Carnegie Learning, Inc.
