Carmel, Ind., Borders Store Hosts Grand Opening Celebration February 28 - March 3.

CARMEL, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 8, 2002

Borders is celebrating the grand opening of its 23,200-square-foot bi-level store in Carmel, located on the southwest corner of 116th Street and Keystone Avenue, from Thurs., Feb. 28, through Sun., March 3. It will be the fifth Borders store to serve the Indianapolis market. Throughout the weekend, special events are planned including Universal Music's A Universe of Music, Movies and More, a Scholastic Kids Day and DK Publishing's Keep It Simple Sunday.

On Friday, March 1, Universal Music presents A Universe of Music, Movies and More, a day filled with musical performances and trivia challenges. The Grand Prize Giveaway will include a DVD player A stand-alone device that plays DVDs. It contains a DVD drive and the electronics to decode the digital video. The device may play only manufactured DVDs, or it may be able to play DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs. DVD players are cabled to a TV or home theater system for display.  and a Universe of DVDs starter set. At 2 p.m., Celtic harpist Tom Duncan will play soothing music in the cafe.  Sideshow See Windows SideShow.  will offer a spectacle in the tradition of the classic carnival sideshows, but with a decidedly contemporary, humorous twist. Jenie DeVoe, one of Indy's most-loved performers, will sing her unique, soulful, funky, trip-hop tunes at 9 p.m.

Borders will continue the fun Sat., March 2, with a Scholastic Kids Day. The first 300 children inside the store that morning will receive a free Clifford the Big Red Dog book. Starting at 10 a.m., Borders will host an hour of Captain Underpants Extra Crunchy Fun `n' Games with a special guest, storyteller Will Gould. Then, at 11 a.m., Clifford the Big Red Dog will come to meet and greet kids. A Harry Potter activity and trivia hour will take place at 1 p.m.

A number of local organizations will set up tables with information about the community in the store on Saturday evening. The organizations include the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, the Carmel Arts Council An arts council is a government or private, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts mainly by funding local artists, awarding prizes, and organizing events at home and abroad. , the Carmel Clay Public Library, the Carmel Dad's Club, the Carmel Clay Historical Society Museum, and the Carmel Chamber of Commerce. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., a string quartet from the Carmel Symphony Orchestra will entertain shoppers.

Sun., March 3, will be DK Publishing's Keep It Simple Sunday. Throughout the day customers can enter to win gift sets, as well as a grand prize, a DK Keep It Simple Series Gift Basket A gift basket, or fruit basket is typically a gift that is delivered to the recipient at their home or workplace. Kim Allen will present a yoga workshop at 2 p.m., followed by a wine tasting seminar by Indianapolis' renowned Gaia Wines at 3 p.m. At 4 p.m., the Carmel Parks and Recreation Department will be on hand to give your family fun outdoor spring activity ideas.
