Carlsberg and Labatt USA In New Cooperation.


COPENHAGEN, Denmark & NORWALK, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sept. 3, 1997--Carlsberg A.S. and Labatt USA today USA Today

National U.S. daily general-interest newspaper, the first of its kind. Launched in 1982 by Allen Neuharth, head of the Gannett newspaper chain, it reached a circulation of one million within a year and surpassed two million in the 1990s.
 announced a new cooperation for the U.S. distribution of Carlsberg beer. Under the long-term agreement, effective November 1, 1997, Labatt USA will acquire the rights to market and sell the prestigious Carlsberg family of brands including Carlsberg Beer, Carlsberg Elephant and Carlsberg Elephant Red.

While only 13th in the world in per capita beer consumption, the United States had 1,444 breweries of varying size operating as of 2006.
