Carlos sidelined but Adebayor is set for City debut.

STRIKER Carlos Tevez will have to wait for his first action as a Manchester City player after being left out of the squad to play Kaizer Chiefs in today's final of the Vodacom Challenge in South Africa.

The Argentinian striker, who joined City early last week and linked up with the squad last Friday, is still struggling with a heel injury and Mark Hughes does not want to risk his pounds 25m signing.

"It is a shame for him, for us and for the South African public but unfortunately these things happen," said the manager yesterday.

"Carlos has had a continual problem with his heel and we had it checked yesterday. He is probably going to miss a week of training."

However, fellow new signing Emmanuel Adebayor, who completed a pounds 25m move from Arsenal on Saturday, and Robinho, fresh from his honeymoon, are set to play some part today after both arrived in South Africa in midweek.

"We have checked Emmanuel out and he has looked good so far, his fitness levels are fine and he could play a significant part tomorrow," Hughes added.

City beat the Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 on Tuesday night but the South African side qualified for the final by defeating Orlando Pirates in a penalty shoot-out on Thursday.

Meanwhile, City goalkeeper Stuart Taylor believes manager Mark Hughes has assembled a "frightening" strike force.

In adition to Adebayor and Tevez, Paraguay striker Roque Santa Cruz has also arrived at Eastlands to join Robinho, Craig Bellamy, Benjani Mwaruwari and Valeri Bojinov already at the club.

And Taylor is looking forward to seeing the new recruits in action.

"We're getting a fantastic squad together now, if we gel together and do it as a team on the field, it's looking good," he said.

"The strike force we have coming together is frightening.

"We can chop and change it for anything we need and it looks like there will be a lot of goals."

Taylor, along with former Aston Villa team-mate Gareth Barry, joined City this summer.

And although he faces a difficult task to displace number one Shay Given, the former Arsenal goalkeeper insists he has a role to play.

"It's nice for me to get a chance to come to a club like this," Taylor added.

"I believe I am still good enough to do a job with a team like this, and the club feel that as well."
