Carlos M. Nunez, M.D. Joins Picis as Executive Medical Director.

Picis, a world leader in perioperative and critical care information systems, announced today the appointment of Carlos M. Nunez, M.D. as its Executive Medical Director.

Dr. Nunez's training and experience as both an anesthesiologist and an intensivist, coupled with his extensive knowledge of medical informatics, will contribute to the evolution of the Picis CareSuite(TM) care automation product line as well as to the development of Savent(TM), the new Picis online perioperative outcomes management service, to be launched later this year.

Dr. Nunez received his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine, where he also completed his post-graduate training in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. He comes to Picis from an active clinical practice at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord, North Carolina.

He has devoted much of his medical career to the merger of clinical practice with information technology, which includes point-of-care automation, Internet-based medical informatics, mobile computing interfaces to enterprise hospital networks, and automated data collection for outcomes research.

At NorthEast Medical Center, he successfully deployed a "Palm Pilot"-based billing and coding system that is now being expanded to include all of the hospital's 200+ physicians. Dr. Nunez also founded an Internet service that publishes medical information for web-enabled mobile computers. He also serves on the Executive Council of the Anesthesia History Association and lectures around the country on the use of information technology to make healthcare delivery more effective.
