Carlos Guimaraes Named President and CEO of UOP.

DES PLAINES, Ill. -- Carlos Guimaraes has been named President and CEO of UOP LLC, succeeding Graeme H.H. Donald, who has decided to leave the company to return to the UK. Guimaraes will assume the role President and CEO of UOP in July 2004.

In his most recent, Guimaraes served as Vice President, Environmental Operations Business and Chemicals Operations at The Dow Chemical Company. He joined Dow in 1975 at its Chlor-Alkali operations in Aratu, Brazil. Guimaraes served in several operational, supply chain and business leadership roles through 1990, when he became President of Dow Portugal and Operations Director for the Estarreja, Portugal, complex. He returned to Dow Aratu as Director of Operations in 1993.

The following year, Guimaraes was named president of Dow Mexico. In 1996, he became Business Director for RCl, HCl and Incineration in the United States. In 1998, Guimaraes was named Global Business Director, Environmental Operations, Chemicals.

Since 2002, Guimaraes has served as chair of the U.S. Business Council for Sustainable Development (USBCSD). In addition, he received the 2003 Albert V. Baez Award, given by the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation (HENAAC) and Technica magazine to honor Hispanic engineers and scientists with outstanding achievements.

Guimaraes earned a bachelor's degree in electrical/electronic engineering from Universidade Federal da Bahia, Brazil, and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France.
