took Carlisle to an automatic promotion place, writes MIKE CORRY.

While they never reached the heights of their four-goal mauling of Rushden & Diamonds on Tuesday, Carlisle came from a goal down to salvage a point. And given their superiority in the final 20 minutes they could count themselves unlucky not to return with all three.

The game was also a triumph for Michael Bridges Michael Bridges (born August 5, 1978 in North Shields) is an English football centre-forward whose career has been severely blighted by injuries. He currently plays for Sydney FC, on loan from Hull City. , who grabbed his second goal in two games after confirming his wish to make his loan move from Bristol City permanent.

He said: "The quality of the ball in from Chris Lumsdon Christopher "Chris" Lumsdon (born December 15, 1979 in Newcastle upon Tyne) is a football player who plays in midfield for Carlisle United.

was excellent and that is what we have wanted all season from the free kick takers. Karl (Hawley) has got a first touch and it was a great reaction from Michael Bridges. He has shown that predator instinct to guide it in.

Peterborough enjoyed the bulk of the early possession and Carlisle were thankful to Paul Arnison Paul Simon Arnison (born August 18, 1977 in Hartlepool) is a defender who plays his football for Carlisle United. The Cumbrians found their feet with a Chris Billy volley being saved by Mark Taylor before a run from Bridges came to an end on the back of a double save from Tyler.

Billy was denied with a save from Tyler who got fingertips to a volley destined for the top corner.

The breakthrough came on 55 minutes when Carlisle defended poorly to let Peter Kennedy's cross reach the back post. When Semple's shot was blocked the ball fell for Danny Crow to hammer home.

The introduction of Simon Hackney and Raphael Nade added impetus to Carlisle's play and they drew level on 79 minutes.

Hackney was fouled on the left and from Lumsdon's free kick Hawley helped the ball on to the far post for Bridges to muscle in and head home.

Carlisle were now in top gear and Arnison blasted over from a Bridges lay-off before Tyler pushed a Bridges header on to the bar after Nade had crossed from the byline.

But deep in stoppage time Peterborough came close to snatching the points themselves when Crow volleyed inches wide from a Day cross.
