Carl Reed Joins OGC as Director of Specification Programs.

Dr. Carl Reed has joined the Open GIS Consortium as Director of Specification Programs. Dr. Reed joins the OGC OGC Office of Government Commerce (UK government)

 with over 30 years experience in the GIS and location services See mobile positioning.  industries. Prior to joining the OGC, Dr. Reed was a senior executive at Intergraph, Genasys and Autometric.

Dr. Reed will manage the OGC Technical Committee process, focusing on the mission of developing formal OpenGIS Specifications. He will also facilitate the strategic planning Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy, including its capital and people.  initiatives of the OGC Planning Committee planning committee n (in local government) → comité m de planificación . Dr. Reed will oversee the management and publication of technical documentation, support OGC's Interoperability Program and integrate the specification program with all other aspects of OGC business.

Dr. Reed's recent consulting experience includes work on the integration of geospatial technology into location services, strategic planning, GIS software architecture design and review, and specifications and standards for interoperability. Before opening his consulting practice, Dr. Reed served as Intergraph's VP of geospatial marketing where he helped define the company's vision for enterprise, Internet and location-based services. Before Intergraph, Dr. Reed served as President and Chairman of the Board of Genasys Americas and was also Chief Technology Officer for the global Genasys organization.

Dr. Reed is widely published and is a popular speaker at GIS related conferences and policy workshops. He has presented papers at hundreds of conferences and has been invited to lend his expertise to NSDI NSDI - National Spatial Data Infrastructure  Framework Workshops, the Adelaide Policy Summit, the GIM a. 1. Dr. Reed holds a Ph.D. from SUNY SUNY - State University of New York  Buffalo with a focus on systems design and architecture for GIS. He is based in Fort Collins, Colorado The City of Fort Collins, a home rule municipality situated on the Cache la Poudre River along the Colorado Front Range, is the county seat and most populous city in Larimer County, Colorado. .

OGC is an international industry consortium of over 200 companies, government agencies and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geoprocessing specifications. OpenGIS Specifications establish common interfaces that "geo-enable" the Web and mainstream IT, enabling technology developers to make complex spatial information and services accessible and useful with all kinds of applications.
