Carl Filipiak: Hotel Real (Geometric Records GEO-242).

Carl Filipiak Carl Filipiak is a jazz guitarist located in Baltimore. His jazz mixes some rock and other elements, called "Jazz Fusion." Carl plays in many festivals and venues on the east coast, a favorite of his is the Cat's Eye Pub. : Hotel Real (Geometric Records GEO-242)

Carl Filipiak is a Baltimore-based guitarist whose third time on Geometric is quite a charm -- this is a really solid outing, sounding tight from beginning to end even though the backup musicians are not the same for every cut (there are three different drummers, three different sax players, two different bass players -- only the keyboardist and percussionist join Filipiak on all the cuts). There is even a song repeated, Stevie Wonder's "'Cause We've Ended as Lovers," which appears in two different arrangements. The net result is a rewarding session -- the cuts are all quite listenable lis·ten·a·ble

A special highlight of this CD is Filipiak's "Hey Jimi," a Hendrix tribute that will make your head swim -- I'd love to hear Filipiak play this live. Whew whew
