Carjacking thwarted. (Exercising the Right).

The assailants chased him, knocked him down, and began kicking him in the head. They reportedly also tried to take his gun, at which point the 26-year-old officer, who was not immediately identified, opened fire, striking both men several times. David Montanez, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene. His accomplice, whose identity was also withheld, survived and was taken to a nearby medical center for treatment.
