Cargill consolidates malt Operations.

Cargill has announced that it is reorganizing and consolidating all North and South American malting operations and marketing into one entity, to be known as Cargill Malt. This change will affect both Ladish and Schreier.

"We selected the new name to convey to the marketplace the united mission of our ongoing operations," said Doug Eden, president of Cargill Malt. "We have consolidated our multiple facilities into a new organization, although we will continue to market malt produced in Biggar, Saskatchwan, under the Prairie Malt Ltd. name to reflect the joint-venture status of that operation."

Eden said that the company began buying malting barley directly from farmers at its plant in Spiritwood, ND, and will offer farmers in the region production contracts for specific malting barley varieties.

"These new programs are designed to complement our existing elevator organization programs, and to encourage improvements in the long-term supply of high quality U.S. malting barley," Eden said.

In addition to Eden, officers in the Cargill Malt operation will include Jim Ringo as senior vice president & commercial manager; Todd Buness as assistant vice president-controller; Bart Vervenne as vice president, operations; John T. Renz, vice president of sales and Jay R. Pede, vice president for the Mercosur region.
