Cargill Dow begins making plastic from corn. (FYI News & Notes).


Cargill Dow LLC employees, customers and special guests celebrated the official grand opening of the first global-scale manufacturing facility capable of making plastics from corn on April 2, 2002. The facility, located in Blair, Neb., will produce more than 300 million pounds (140,000 metric tons) of NatureWorks[TM] PLA (polylactide) annually and use up to 40,000 bushels of locally grown corn per day.
