ASTON Villa could be without striker John Carew

John Alieu Carew (born 5 September, 1979 in Lørenskog, Norway) is a Norwegian footballer who plays for Aston Villa of England's Premier League.

But manager Martin O'Neill revealed Carew was "extremely doubtful" to be in the squad for today's match with Fulham and could be out for a fortnight.

"John Carew's got a back problem and it might need a couple more weeks," said the Villa manager.

"It's giving him a bit of referred pain and causing him a bit of anxiety at the moment. So we've got a procedure, but not an operation, in place that we're going to do and then we'll monitor it as it goes along.

"He's having discomfort and it's been there for a number of weeks now."

"I think it's something now that the specialist feels we can get to the bottom of though and resolve it. I don't know all the medical details of it, but that's what I've been told."
