Care Data Exchange(R) Solution Allows Healthcare Providers to

of Quovadx, Inc. (Nasdaq:QVDXE) today announced the general availability of the Care Data Exchange(R) solution. The Care Data Exchange (CDE (1) (Computer Desktop Encyclopedia) What you are reading at this very moment. See About this product.

) solution is the first replicable brokered peer-to-peer clinical data exchange solution that enables healthcare providers to improve the quality, speed and accuracy of patient care through the secure sharing of clinical data at the point-of-care. The Care Data Exchange solution was developed by CareScience in collaboration with the Santa Barbara Santa Barbara (săn'tə bär`brə, –bərə), city (1990 pop. 85,571), seat of Santa Barbara co., S Calif., on the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1850.  County Care Data Exchange project and the California HealthCare Foundation.

"The benefits of engaging innovative technology to create a secure, accurate and complete patient record are substantial. While this theoretical concept has been lauded by the medical community and health policy advocates for years, this is the first time a viable community-wide, patient-centric model for moving toward electronic healthcare records has been commercially available," said Nick Augustinos, vice president, CareScience.

It implies that the data are stored in one or more servers in the network and that there is some software locking mechanism that prevents the same set of data from being changed by two people at the same time. , ultimately contributing to lowering the cost of care, reducing errors, speeding data transport and eliminating redundancies. Currently, the CDE solution is being implemented in two distinct communities.

The Santa Barbara County CDE project in California is now in the final stages of user acceptance testing (testing) user acceptance testing - The type of testing where monitored users determine whether a system meets all their requirements, and will support the business for which it was designed.  and is expected to be fully operational in 2004.

A second CDE project is currently underway in Colorado. The Mesa County Health Information Network (MCHIN), in Mesa County, Colorado Mesa County is the fourth most extensive and the eleventh most populous of the 64 counties of the State of Colorado in the United States. The county was named for the many large mesas in the area, including Grand Mesa, the most extensive mesa on Earth. , has begun the evaluation phase of a Care Data Exchange implementation and could be in production within 9-12 months' time. The MCHIN, with the help of the Care Data Exchange solution, will allow member healthcare providers and their staffs to efficiently access a longitudinal electronic health record for the patients under their care, in compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996, Public Law 104-191) Also known as the "Kennedy-Kassebaum Act," this U.S. law protects employees' health insurance coverage when they change or lose their jobs (Title I) and provides standards for patient health,  regulations.

"The Care Data Exchange solution addresses a wide variety of clinical data concerns, such as patient identity resolution, consent management and results display, while meeting growing HIPAA and security regulations," said Curt Hatch, executive director of the Mesa County IPA IPA - International Phonetic Alphabet . We believe these features will reduce medical errors, prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and ambulatory Movable; revocable; subject to change; capable of alteration.

visits and minimize duplicate testing duplicate testing Lab medicine The inappropriate repeating of lab or other diagnostic evaluations–eg, CBC, U/A, CK-MB, BMP, more often than allowed by Medicare or third party payers  as a comprehensive view of patients' clinical information becomes routinely available."

A heavy reliance on paper-based medical records, combined with disparate, enterprise-specific legacy systems has prevented access to clinical records among the various affiliated healthcare institutions or those in close geographic proximity. The CDE solution offers a controlled, secure and cost-effective way to access patient information and allows for full, local control of data assets by participating healthcare providers.

The CDE solution can be deployed as a community data sharing solution across multiple organizations and provider settings through the Community Data Exchange, or as an enterprise solution for individual organizations via the Enterprise Data Exchange, deployed with or without connections to local business or clinical partners.

Benefits of the Community Data Exchange solution include:

-- A patient-centric view of clinical data across the community -

essential for clinical safety and efficient care delivery

-- An automated, HIPAA-compliant copy of key medical record

-- A highly scalable model for internal and cross-enterprise data

sharing with low marginal expansion costs

-- Full, local control of their respective data assets for each

Benefits of the Enterprise Data Exchange solution include:

information to clinicians from anywhere, to anywhere

"We are very excited by the commercial launch of the Care Data Exchange solution," said Ronald Paulus, chief healthcare officer, Quovadx. "This unique solution is the culmination of our long-standing desire to contribute to increased quality, safety and cost efficiency for healthcare patients in communities throughout the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The Care Data Exchange Solution is now available through the CareScience unit of Quovadx.

The solution is implemented in two parts, beginning with an assessment of a community's needs and current IT infrastructure. The second phase encompasses a pilot implementation and general availability release planning.
