Care home replaces Meltham landmark; Old Greenacres site re-developed.Byline: NICK LAVIGUEUR A FORMER Huddersfield student has returned to his roots to build a high-tech care home. The Greenacres care home in Meltham was closed in 2006 but now a new 64-bed home has begun construction on the same site. Demolition of the old home began this week and Lawrence Tomlinson, who studied at Huddersfield Technical College Huddersfield Technical College is a technical college located in Huddersfield, in the English county of West Yorkshire. There are many campuses dotted around the town and its suburbs. Clr Shabir Pandor, joint Cabinet lead member for Kirklees Council's adults and communities department added: "The council is pleased to be working with LNT Construction in the development of this new care facility, which will offer new opportunities for older people who require residential support to meet their care needs." The new home will be a boost to local residents who fought to keep the home open four-years-ago. Colne Valley The Colne Valley is a steep sided valley on the east flank of the Pennine Hills in the English county of West Yorkshire. It takes its name from the River Colne which rises above the town of Marsden and flows eastward along the floor of the valley. MP Kali Mountford joined the fight and said that every effort should be made to keep care services for the elderly on a site in Meltham. But the fight was lost after Kirklees Council chiefs said the home did not meet modern standards and would be too expensive to upgrade.
