Care by Air drums up support at Dubai expo. The UAE initiative 'Care by Air' is hoping that its debut presence at this year's Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition 2010 (DIHAD) will drum up more awareness and support. Care by Air was launched at the Dubai Air Show in November 2009 and currently onboard are Maximus Air Cargo, Etihad Airways and Abu Dhabi Airports Company. Organisations such as the UAE Red Crescent and the World Food Programme are also very supportive of the initiative. Speaking of 'Care by Air' Fathi Buhazza, President and CEO of Maximus Air Cargo and founder of Care by Air said: "The UAE is a nation well known for its humanitarian efforts and Care by Air is something that business here can really be proud of. We are looking forward to raising interest and generating support for this initiative. It is a sustainable business model which has the formidable power to help millions in need." The vision is simple -- to deliver humanitarian relief by improving the use of logistical resources. The innovative business model behind this initiative is the 'at cost' principle. Basically, airport, cargo companies and fuel suppliers are able to improve the lives of millions by operating at cost. By donating empty space on flights at cost, waiving handling, landing or parking fees or discounting fuel prices, great steps can be made said a statement by Care Air. "Business is business and the bottom line counts, but so does playing a role within society, which is why the Care by Air 'at cost' business model makes sense. The 'at cost' principle means no losses will be incurred so it is possible to sustain and guarantee business efficiency, it said. Citing an example, it continued that using unutilised cargo space means that the cost of fuel and mileage decreases, profit increases and lives will be saved around the world. The initiative is now up and running with a web site (www.carebyair.org ) and full commitment from its partners. Now in its seventh year, the Dihad conference and exhibition is regarded as an authoritative forum where humanitarian and development policies and practices are discussed providing a pivotal focal point for the international aid community. The initiative was held under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Prime Minister of United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Dubai, supported by Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Est., the United Nations, the UAE Red Crescent Society and the Organisation of Islamic Conference. 2008 CPI Financial.
