Care Alliance Announces Visit From Dr. Marilyn Gaston, Assistant Surgeon General of the United States.CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 1999-- The Assistant Surgeon General The U.S. Surgeon General is charged with the protection and advancement of health in the United States. Since the 1960s the surgeon general has become a highly visible federal public health official, speaking out against known health risks such as tobacco use, and promoting disease of the United States, Dr. Marilyn Gaston, will be visiting Cleveland's Care Alliance Health Center on Thursday morning, Sept. 9, 1999. Dr. Gaston will visit Care Alliance clinics for homeless persons. While at Care Alliance, Dr. Gaston will meet with leading health and hospital officials to discuss the "100% Access, 0% Health Disparities" campaign. The primary goal of the campaign is to provide appropriate access to the full continuum of health care services for uninsured people who cannot afford medical care. The campaign is being led nationally by the Health Resources and Services Administration The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is an agency within the United States Department of Health and Human Services whose goal is to improve access to health care for those without insurance. Homeless persons are served at 14 sites around the community where homeless people congregate, including shelters, meal sites, and church programs.
