The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  Patent Office that a patent has been granted for CVD's perfusion catheter technology.

This is the third patent issued to CVD that utilizes CVD's MAC (Mechanical Angioplasty Catheter) technology to provide blood perfusion Blood perfusion

). During conventional PTCA, the inflated balloon on the PTCA catheter blocks blood flow downstream from the atherosclerotic lesion under treatment. This limits the length of time the PTCA balloon can be inflated to only a few minutes and, therefore, may result in a sub-optimal therapeutic result.

Utilizing MAC technology, catheters have been designed that can both perform PTCA and/or site-specific drug delivery, while providing continuous blood flow during a therapeutic procedure. These catheters also provide catheter performance characteristics equal to conventional, state-of-the-art PTCA catheters.

This patent, entitled "Low Profile Perfusion Catheter" includes claims that protect both the method of performing angioplasty, drug delivery and perfusion, as well as specific designs of such devices.

CVD has conducted preliminary testing of these devices in both animal tests and human clinical trials. The Company plans to continue such studies and begin limited marketing in selected countries in 1996.

The annual worldwide market for combined PTCA-Perfusion catheters is approximately $80 million, with one manufacturer currently controlling nearly all of the market. The Company estimates the current market for site-specific drug delivery catheters to be approximately $50 million.

CVD develops and markets site-specific drug delivery catheters, combined angioplasty-drug delivery catheters and advanced therapeutic catheters. All CVD products are manufactured in its Irvine, Calif. facilities.
