Pulmonary artery catheterization is a diagnostic procedure in which a small catheter is inserted through a neck, arm, chest, or thigh vein and maneuvered into the right side of the heart, in order to measure
 (PAC).

The study results were presented at the 47th Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology The American College of Cardiology (ACC) is a nonprofit medical association established in 1949 to educate, research and influence health care public policy. The president for the 2006–2007 year is Steven E. Nissen. [1] The organization has 39 chapters in the U.S.  (A.C.C.) in Atlanta, Georgia, by Dr. Anthony N. DeMaria, the study's Chief Investigator.

The Cardiac Output Correlation Study (the COST Study) was conducted in 1997 and involved 191 patients at seven centers including University of California The University of California has a combined student body of more than 191,000 students, over 1,340,000 living alumni, and a combined systemwide and campus endowment of just over $7.3 billion (8th largest in the United States).  at San Diego, Mercy-Scripps Hospital, Naval Hospital, Alvarado Hospital and Grossmont Hospital, all of San Diego; St. John's Hospital St. John's Hospital may refer to:

Dr. DeMaria, Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of California at San Diego and Chief Investigator of the COST Study, stated that the clinical study demonstrated the validity of CardioDynamics' Thoracic Electrical Bioimpedance (TEB TEB Test & Evaluation Board

and determining therapy in a multitude of patients, especially those with heart disease. The results of the COST Study show the ability of the BioZ System to provide noninvasive, continuous, and reliable assessment of cardiac output.

"The results demonstrate a good correlation between the BioZ System's noninvasive TEB and the invasive PAC-Thermodilution technique. The BioZ System will provide physicians a noninvasive method of measuring cardiac output which has significant potential to decrease healthcare costs and complications and also improve outcomes for patient diagnosis and treatment."

CardioDynamics viewed the completion and presentation of a major multi-center correlation study, such as the COST Study, to be a significant step towards the widespread acceptance of the BioZ System in the medical community for cardiac and intensive care applications.

The Company's goal is for the BioZ's technology, TEB, to become a standard of care, very similar to blood pressure monitoring, electrocardiograms (EKG EKG: see electrocardiography. ) and pulse oximetry.

"The COST Study validates to the medical community the Company's BioZ System's TEB technology and strongly positions it as an alternative to the costly, dangerous, invasive technologies. Furthermore, the BioZ System provides physicians outside the hospital with hemodynamic he·mo·dy·nam·ics

cardiac monitoring data that previously has been unavailable," stated Rhonda F. Pederson, CDIc President.

"This hemodynamic data is critical in the proper and efficient treatment of many medical conditions, including hypertension and congestive heart failure congestive heart failure, inability of the heart to expel sufficient blood to keep pace with the metabolic demands of the body. In the healthy individual the heart can tolerate large increases of workload for a considerable length of time. . With almost 25% of American adults suffering from hypertension, of which 36% are inadequately treated, there is a real necessity for additional objective, cost-efficient tools, such as the BioZ System.

"Additionally, congestive heart failure contributes more than any other disease to the cost of medical care and, considering that the United States spends one trillion dollars annually on healthcare, the impact of BioZ could be enormous. We are highly encouraged with the medical community's cognizance The power, authority, and ability of a judge to determine a particular legal matter.  of the BioZ System's applications and value in medical care."

CardioDynamics develops, manufactures, and markets noninvasive digital cardiac output monitoring devices, which provide continuous data on a wide range of hemodynamic parameters (measurements of the heart's ability to deliver oxygen-rich blood throughout the body).

The Company's primary products, the BioZ System, BioZ Portable, and BioZ.com, use TEB technology to obtain data which is typically available only through a time consuming, costly, potentially dangerous invasive PAC procedures. Since TEB monitoring is noninvasive, it eliminates patient risk and potentially decreases the length of hospital stay, thereby reducing patient cost.
