CardioDynamics Announces Results of BioZ Dyspnea Differential Study at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Annual Meeting, Chicago, Illinois.

SAN DIEGO--(BW HealthWire)--June 8, 1998--CardioDynamics International Corporation (Nasdaq: CDIC), a noninvasive digital cardiac output monitoring manufacturer, announced the results of a significant clinical study, the Dyspnea Differential Study. The Dyspnea Differential Study data demonstrated the Company's noninvasive BioZ(TM) System's ability to differentiate cardiac from pulmonary causes of shortness of breath (dyspnea) in emergency department patients. Annicol Marrocco, M.D., Emergency Medicine Department, Morristown Memorial Hospital, New Jersey, presented the Dyspnea Differential Study at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Annual Meeting in Chicago and at the Annual Scientific Assembly of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians in Atlantic City, where she won the award for best presentation. Additionally, the Study's Abstract was published in the May issue of the Academic Emergency Medicine Journal.

Dyspnea is one of the primary causes for theover 90 million visits to emergency departments each year. Initial traditional modalities for differentiating between cardiac and pulmonary causes of dyspnea include a chest x-ray,

which often does not allow for an accurate diagnosis and treatment. In cases where the chest x-ray is inconclusive, patients often must undergo the costly, time-consuming and potentially dangerous invasive Pulmonary Artery Catheterization (PAC) procedure. The noninvasive BioZ System will allow for the rapid and safe diagnosis and treatment of emergency department patients.

In the Dyspnea Differential Study, the BioZ System's measurements of cardiac index, stroke index, and left stroke work index were studied and compared to the clinical diagnosis of four physicians, independently reviewing each patient's chart and blinded to the BioZ System data. The Study found that the BioZ System's measurements differentiated cardiogenic from pulmonary causes of acute dyspnea.

The Dyspnea Differential Study amplifies three recently presented clinical studies utilizing the BioZ System: the COST Correlation Study presented by Anthony DeMaria, M.D. at the American College of Cardiology Meeting, the Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Correlation Study presented by Bruce Spiess, M.D. at the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists Meeting, and the Mayo Atrioventricular Interval Optimization Study, presented by David L. Hayes, M.D. at the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPE) Meeting.
