Cardinal prays to Allah.Washington, DC -- Cardinal McCarrick has taken to heart comments made by Pope Benedict in Cologne, when the Pope invited Muslim leaders to join him in turning away from "cruel fanaticism" which hinders world peace. At an occasion at Columbus School of Law, attended by the King and Queen of Jordan and their delegation, Cardinal McCarrick prayed to Allah Allah (ăl`ə, ä`lə), [Arab.,=the God]. Derived from an old Semitic root refering to the Divine and used in the Canaanite El, the Mesopotamian ilu, and the biblical Elohim, the word Allah is used by all Arabic-speaking Muslims, Christians, Jews, and others. for help: "May Allah, the merciful and compassionate, continue to guide your steps along this noble path [to world peace] ... In the name of Allah, the merciful and compassionate God, we pray. Amen Amen: see Amon.." Comment: To use the title "Allah" is extremely confusing because of its Muslim connotations. Catholics acknowledge the Trinitarian Godhead, Father, Son and Spirit. Muslims and Jews reject this concept. |
