The extensive Univ. , Calif. - Stanford avenged a season-opening loss to Oregon with an 8-2 win over the second-seeded Ducks in the semifinals of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation is a college athletic conference whose member teams are located in the western United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I.  lacrosse tournament on Saturday.

The Cardinal (8-8) will meet Denver for the championship at 1 p.m. today, after the Ducks (11-8) play California in the 11 a.m. consolation game.

Stanford broke to a 5-1 halftime lead. Senior Liz Piselli had five goals for the Cardinal.

Scoring for the Ducks were Alison Leiner and Sarah MacDonald.

STANFORD, Calif. - Oregon freshman Ashton Eaton stood second and sophomore teammate Alexey Shkuratov was sixth after the first day of the Pac-10 Conference decathlon at Cobb Track and Angell Field on Saturday.

Eaton won the 100 meters in 10.81 seconds and was second in the 400 (49.19) and long jump (23-8 3/4 ).

Wildcats spoil big day for record OSU softball crowd

CORVALLIS - Defending national champion Arizona took just five innings to hand Oregon State a 10-1 Pac-10 softball loss before a record OSU crowd of 1,008 on Saturday.

Kristi Fox's three-run double ignited a six-run third inning for the Wildcats (37-10-1, 13-3-1 Pac-10). The Beavers (36-20, 7-10) scored their only run on Mia Longfellow's single.

Linn-Benton takes

doubleheader from Titans

Linn-Benton scored three times in the top of the 17th inning for a 6-3 baseball win over Lane Community College in the first game of an NWAACC NWAACC Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges  doubleheader on Saturday.

The visiting Roadrunners completed the sweep with a 9-1 victory.
