Cardinal Technologies Ships First External Voice Modems to Carry "Designed for Windows 95" Logo.

In order to qualify for the official designation, Cardinal Technologies submitted its modem shortly after first shipping it for an extensive series of tests administered at Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Lab (WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) A Microsoft facility that provides testing services for hardware and drivers for compliance with its operating systems. WHQL administers various logos that compliant vendors may reprint on their packages. ) in Redmond, Wash.

Cardinal was one of only two modem manufacturers to demonstrate compatibility with the Windows 95 Plug and Play initiative at the spectacular Windows 95 launch event in Redmond on Aug. 24. Securing the "Designed for Windows 95" logo requires support for the Plug and Play initiative, which effectively eliminates the need for users to set up dip switches and jumpers. Plug and Play automatically recognizes installation requirements for add-on hardware and properly configures a Cardinal modem to work seamlessly within the user's system.
