Cardinal Bertone in Armenia and Azerbaijan.


Representing the Holy See, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone, SDB, STL, JCD (born 2 December 1934) is an Italian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He currently serves as Cardinal Secretary of State and Camerlengo, having previously served as Archbishop of Genoa from 2002 to 2006. , S.D.B., made a visit to Christian Armenia and Muslim Azerbaijan in March.

In Azerbaijan, he met with Sheikh sheikh

The Cardinal also inaugurated the first Catholic church in Azerbaijan on land donated to Pope John Paul II Pope John Paul II (Latin: Ioannes Paulus PP. II, Italian: Giovanni Paolo II, Polish: Jan Paweł II) born Karol Józef Wojtyła   by President Heydar Aliyev. Cardinal Bertone, a Salesian, gave special thanks to the Salesians who serve the Catholic community: "I would never have imagined that I, a member of the Salesians, would come here as Secretary of State, to pay homage at this altar, where the relics of the great Salesian saints--John Bosco, Maria Domenica Mazzarello and Dominic Savio, among others--have been brought together" (Zenit, 9, 11, March 2008).

In Armenia, Cardinal Bertone had meetings with Karekin II, supreme patriarch of the Armenian Orthodox Church. He also delivered a handwritten hand·write
