Cardinal Bankers Go Back to the Classrooms to Teach Important Financial Lessons to Students.

TYSONS CORNER, Va. -- Bankers from Cardinal Bank joined with thousands of financial leaders across the country to participate in National Teach Children To Save Day. More than 30 employees from Cardinal Bank participated at local schools in Fairfax County, Prince William County and Stafford County teaching students some important financial facts of life. The American Bankers Association Education Foundation established this program nearly a decade ago to spotlight the importance of teaching our nation's youth about saving money.

"No one talked about financial literacy ten years ago," said Kevin Reynolds, President of Cardinal Bank. "Now it's on the minds of regulators, bankers and members of Congress. Cardinal Bank is committed to educating our children about responsible money management and good savings skills. We must all work together to help create lifelong savers and improve financial literacy in our country."

Cardinal Bank employees taught financial lessons that incorporated games and activities about the concepts of money and saving, how interest makes money grow, the difference between needs and wants, and exploring alternatives to purchasing.

"Today was really special when Mr. Kevin from Cardinal Bank came to our school to teach about saving money. The hardest part of the lesson was getting the difference between needs and wants," said a fourth grade student from Sunrise Valley Elementary School in Reston, Virginia.

Cardinal Bank launched it popular Kid's Club savings account in 2004 and now has eight student-run, school banks with area school systems.
