Cardima CEO Phillip Radlick Talks to The Wall Street Transcript.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1998--The Wall Street Transcript has published an in-depth interview with Phillip Radlick of Cardima, Inc. (Nasdaq: CRDM CRDM Control Rod Drive Mechanism
CRDM Centre for Rapid Design and Manufacture (Buckinghamshire Chilterns University)
CRDM Cumann Rince Dea Mheasa (Irish dancing organisation)
), in which he talks at length about his company, which is a medical device company that supplies microcatheter systems.

He explains, "The customers are cardiac electrophysiologists. They are physicians who are trained to be cardiologists first, and then they enter a specialty training program which usually lasts about two years post their cardiology training to learn the specifics of cardiac electrophysiology Cardiac electrophysiology is the science of the mechanisms, functions, and performance of the electrical activities of specific regions of the heart. This term is usually used in describing studies of such phenomena by invasive (intracardiac) recording of spontaneous activity as , which is the practice of medicine that deals with why electrical disturbances take place in the heart and cause the heart either to beat too slow or too fast. In cardiac electrophysiologists terms, the two things that the catheters do are called mapping, or finding, and ablation ablation /ab·la·tion/ (-shun)
1. separation or detachment; extirpation; eradication.

2. removal or destruction, especially by cutting.

He says, "We have just received something very important on Aug. 3rd, called CE Mark, which is the European community's blessing, similar to that of the FDA FDA

."

He adds, "We are unique in the world and clearly differentiated from every other company going after these two markets. We have a disposable product Disposable products are items that are not intended by the manufacturer to be reused more than once or a few times as compared to more permanent serviceable and reusable items. Some products that have disposable versions are:
  • diapers
  • cigarette lighters
  • flatware
which can both diagnose and eliminate through ablation the number one cardiovascular need in medicine today. We have a strong management team, with a couple of us who have a very strong history of medical device development who know how to make this happen, and I think everything is in place at this moment to say that Cardima is truly poised for greatness."
