Cardiff end season in the style of champions; Thomas, Carroll South Wales ~ Cricket League Premier Division.


DOUBLE winners Cardiff ended one of the best seasons in the club's history by thrashing Abergavenny at the Diamond Ground in the Premier Division of the Thomas, Carroll South Wales South Wales south nsud m du Pays de Galles  Cricket League.

Batting first, Cardiff racked up an impressive 308 for four thanks to Mike O'Shea who cracked a marvellous 138. Nick Howells had an equally superb 116 not out and Dewi Preece got 32. Craig Barnsley took two for 37 for Abergavenny and John Denning two for 45.

Gavin Heritage made 71 in the Abergavenny innings and Greg Fury 48 but Dan Rees took four for 40, Mansoor Tariq two for 19 and O'Shea two for 48 to get them all out for 200.

At Burnham Avenue, Sully experimented by changing their batting order Noun 1. batting order - (baseball) a list of batters in the order in which they will bat; "the managers presented their cards to the umpire at home plate"

 and it misfired on them.

Lloyd Smith got 17 early on but skipper Jamie Sylvester was top scorer with 39 not out after coming in at number eight and his efforts helped Sully to reach 120 all out.

Destroyer-in-chief was Ruaidhri Smith, who returned six for 27, while Prateesh Rajpal had two for 26 and Jack Lansdown one for 26.

 had a superb spell of one for 12 from his 10 overs but after losing that early wicket, Tom Maynard (73 not out) and Huw Beaverstock (32 not out) saw the Saints home by nine wickets in 28 overs.

Newport ended their season on a high note as they destroyed Penarth at Spytty Park to get the runners-up spot behind champions Cardiff.

They decided to bat first and after losing an early wicket, Michael Clayden continued his remarkable form with a magnificent 134 not out.

With Gary Wood Gary F. Wood (February 5, 1942 — March 2, 1994) played professional American football in the NFL from the year 1964 until the year 1969.

The 5'11'' quarterback was drafted out of Cornell University in the 1964 NFL Draft by the New York Giants in the eighth round.
 (97) he added 200 for the second wicket and after Wood departed, Imran Hassan piled on the agony for the Seasiders with a fine 50 not out.

Penarth were never really in the hunt despite a battling 64 from John J Davies and skipper Nick Morgan's 34 and they were bowled out for 171.

Usk could have got the runners-up place but they failed miserably at Blackwood who were left to celebrate their first win of the season in their last match.

Usk put them in and Huw Wilcox scored 83, skipper Neil Reardon 66 and Matthew Evans 46 as they reached a useful 255 for five.

Owen Watkins took two for 17 for Usk and Matt Birrell two for 35.

Ollie James made 43 early in the Usk reply but wickets tumbled and it took a fine 61 not out from number seven batsman Huw Waters Huw Waters (born September 26, 1986 in Cardiff) is a Welsh cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast medium pace bowler who plays for Glamorgan.

He started playing for Glamorgan in 2005 and was named in England's tour of Bangladesh, but had to withdraw his
 to take Usk to 163 all out.

Will Ford took four for 43 in his 10 overs for Blackwood and Rob Matthews had three for 22 from seven.

Pentyrch defeated Tondu by six wickets and Croesyceiliog played at last after missing weeks through bad weather and visitors Sudbrook made 260 for nine batting first.

Ross Lewis made exactly 100, Julian Lane got 44 and Mike Shaw 35, while Rhys Jones took two for 54 for Croesy and Stuart Roden two for 57.

It was too much for Croesy but Richard Dunn battled hard for 43 not out which helped them to stave off defeat.

Callum Reid also made 36 while Dean Wallace took four for 33, Shaw three for 23 and Martin Norton two for 38.

Pentyrch put Tondu in and the visitors made 195 for seven with Ryan Owen scoring 43 not out, Dai Rees 42 and Alex Jones 33.

Tony Smith took three for 31 for Pentyrch, former Tondu player Bradley Wadlan two for 25 and Michael Grossett two for 42.

Pentyrch opened with a stand of 136 by Wadlan who was eventually caught by Jon Bussey off the bowling of his younger brother Brett for a fine 85.

Opener Greg Holmes (35) shared in the stand with Wadlan and Gareth Gardiner saw them home by six wickets with an unbeaten 31.
