Cardiac nurses holding a "heart to heart" symposium.


NZNO'S CARDIAC Nurses' Section is holding a one-day symposium in Christchurch on August 2. The section is meeting in the South Island for the first time in the hope of attracting more South Island nurses. The symposium will be held in the Rolleston Lecture Theatre, Clinical School, attached to Christchurch Public Hospital.

Section treasurer Lois Morgan said the symposium was a general cardiac symposium with a surgical focus. It would be of interest to all nurses who work in cardiology, cardiac investigation and rehabilitation and cardiac surgery Cardiac surgery is surgery on the heart and/or great vessels performed by a cardiac surgeon. Frequently, it is done to treat complications of ischemic heart disease (for example, coronary artery bypass grafting), correct congenital heart disease, or treat valvular heart disease .

Purpose

Pacemakers are implanted to regulate irregular contractions of the heart (arrhythmia).

The section hopes more than 100 nurses will attend. The section holds a conference and a symposium on alternate years.
