IRVINE, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--April 12, 2001

Cardiac Science Inc. (Nasdaq:DFIB) and privately held Inovise Medical of Newberg, Ore., today announced a strategic alliance which will combine their proprietary technology in the development of cardiac monitoring products.

In addition, Cardiac Science will invest $1 million in Inovise Medical and has obtained a license to Inovise's proprietary software algorithm technology.

Cardiac Science intends to integrate Inovise's Cardiovise(TM) software algorithm technology into its Powerheart(R) monitor- defibrillator defibrillator, device that delivers an electrical shock to the heart in order to stop certain forms of rapid heart rhythm disturbances (arrhythmias). The shock changes a fibrillation to an organized rhythm or changes a very rapid and ineffective cardiac rhythm to a , as well as Cardiac Science's new Cardiac Rhythm Noun 1. cardiac rhythm - the rhythm of a beating heart

"We believe this capability will be particularly useful for patients arriving in the Emergency Room with chest pain. For example, once attached to our Powerheart, a patient will not only be protected against suffering a cardiac arrest cardiac arrest

Cardiac Science's unique monitor-defibrillator products are designed to prevent patient complications caused by delayed defibrillation and increase patient survival from cardiac arrest.

The product is prophylactically attached to cardiac patients via proprietary disposable defibrillator electrodes to assure that, should patients suffer a sudden life-threatening heart rhythm Noun 1. heart rhythm - the rhythm of a beating heart

"This alliance will accelerate the adoption of our technology for the care of cardiac patients," said Patti White, president and chief executive officer of Inovise. "The combination of our collective technologies will be a powerful weapon in the fight against heart disease and premature death Premature Death occurs when a living thing dies of a cause other than old age. A premature death can be the result of injury, illness, violence, suicide, poor nutrition (often stemming from low income), starvation, dehydration, or other factors. ."

About Cardiac Science

Cardiac Science develops and markets life-saving external cardiac defibrillator devices and proprietary software that monitors a patient's cardiac activity, instantly detects the onset of a life-threatening heart rhythm and automatically delivers defibrillation without human intervention.

The company's proprietary technology has multiple applications, including use in external and wearable defibrillators and with standard patient monitors widely used in hospitals throughout the world. The growth of the company's installed base of devices provides a potential recurring revenue stream from the sale of proprietary disposable defibrillator electrodes.

About Inovise Medical

Inovise Medical was founded in 1997 by former members of Hewlett-Packard's Diagnostic Cardiology cardiology

Medical specialty dealing with heart diseases and disorders. It began with the 1749 publication by Jean Baptiste de Sénac of contemporary knowledge of the heart. Diagnostic methods improved in the 19th century, and in 1905 the electrocardiograph was invented.
Division's management and technical team. The privately owned company specializes in low-cost, non-invasive, technology-based medical solutions that promise physicians advanced information that will potentially save and extend lives, as well as reduce health-care costs.

Inovise's Cardiovise Cardiac Diagnostic System, the company's latest product, is the first breakthrough in low-cost cardiac diagnosis in more than 25 years and provides physicians with capabilities that are today either unattainable or accessible only through expensive (and often invasive) tests.

The Cardiovise System is comprised of disposable smart electrode sensors that capture both sound and ECG ECG electrocardiogram.
