Cardiac Pathways CEO William Starling Talks to The Wall Street Transcript.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1998--The Wall Street Transcript has published an in-depth interview with William Starling of Cardiac Pathways (Nasdaq: CPWY), in which he talks at length about the company's technology for the mapping and ablation of complex rapid heart beats called tachyarrhythmias.

He says: "The company's charter has been to develop, manufacture and market disposable catheters and hardware/software platforms required to enable this emerging new treatment option for cardiologists."

"The disposable catheters are the bread and butter of Cardiac Pathways, and the first one that will reach the market should be a ventricular tachycardia, or VT ablation catheter called the Chilli that should be on the market by year end. This product was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration's physician advisory panel this summer, and as such, we should be able to plan the market release of this catheter line by late fall."

Discussing competition for the firm's products, he says: "The primary competitive alternative right now in the clinical environment is the use of anti-arrhythmic drugs to treat the two disease states. The users are relatively unhappy with the efficacy of the drug treatment as well as the complications and side effects that go along with it."

Regarding the firm's immediate future: "The first thing that we are going to do is successfully launch our first product for VT ablation. This system is the first of its kind to undergo a randomized, controlled trial sponsored by the Food and Drug Administration, and we have a large lead over our next competitor. This will be the first major mapping and ablation technology to be approved and market-released in the U.S. for some number of years."
