Cardiac Control announces release of two new advanced single lead products into the European market.

PALM COAST, Fla.--(BW HealthWire)--May 30, 1997--Cardiac Control Systems Inc. (BB:CDCS), announced the release of two new single lead products into European markets.

Both of these will substantially improve and expand on the company's core technology, and will provide a foundation for further products in the near future. These new products include an enhanced version of the company's current Single Lead VDD expected to improve sensitivity and performance and ultimately expand usage of this technology, and a new Single Lead Temporary Pacing system, allowing the company to expand their products into a totally new market area. The first of these products is an enhanced version of the company's current single pass VDD pacing system. This lead's special configuration will allow both atrial and ventricular wall contact. This will provide the most sensitive method of measuring electrical activity in both chambers of the heart, allowing better performance of the total system. This also provides a model for the company's movement into more advanced single lead systems both in pacing and implantable defibrillation in the near future. The company is preparing to initiate clinicals on some of these more advanced systems. Patent applications have been filed to cover this technology.

Additionally, CCS released a new single lead Temporary System, expanding the company's core technology into a new market; acute, temporary pacing. The single lead technology has particular value in this acute care market, as it can provide faster, more effective treatment of these patients than the most commonly used single chamber pacing systems. This market has been estimated at approximately $50 million in annual sales. As these products are also often used as a precursor to the implantation of a permanent pacemaker, this new product can provide a lead toward the use of the company's other products.

Both of these products will be presented for the first time at the Europace meeting in June. The company will also demonstrate two additional new products, a new DDD pacemaker and advanced computer based programmer, both of which are being filed for regulatory approvals in the United States, Europe and Japan.

The European release of the two single lead products is a precursor to a release later this year in both the United States and Japan. They have already been filed with the FDA and are awaiting authorization for US sale.
