Safe

"We have confirmed from other official agencies that cornflakes available all over the country are safe to eat."

We made the inspections and enquiries following the receipt of an e-mail message which proved to be fake, said the official. He said the e-mail had warned that certain cornflakes contained elements of iron which would cause cancer and other diseases.

"It is an internationally approved practice to add permitted levels of iron elements in some types of food items".

He said the e-mail had suggested putting the cornflakes in water and holding a magnet nearby to attract the iron elements. The e-mail may be a ploy to prompt the public to boycott certain products.

He requested the public not to believe unauthorised messages but to check such information with the authorities. Al Reyaysa said the ADFCA is keeping a close vigil over the market to prevent any foul play.

"We are the custodians of food safety in the emirate and we will take all possible steps to prevent any foul play," said the official.
