Carcass scheme deadline extended.

WELSH farmers have been given more time to vote on proposals to set up a national carcass carcass, carcase

 collection and disposal scheme.

The deadline for responses has been extended again amid concerns the subsidised scheme could founder on farmer apathy apathy /ap·a·thy/ (ap´ah-the) lack of feeling or emotion; indifference.apathet´ic

 and misgivings.

Half of Britain's producers must back the project for it to get the go- ahead but with two deadlines already bust, support has so far fallen short.

Wales' new Countryside Minister Carwyn Jones Carwyn Jones AM, (born 21 March 1967), is the Labour Assembly Member for Bridgend. In the coalition government of Labour and Plaid Cymru, was appointed Counsel General for Wales and Leader of the House on July 19.  has now set a new cut- off date of June 6 - four weeks beyond the original deadline of May 9.

Mr Jones said: ``I am very eager that Welsh livestock farmers have every chance to indicate their interest in joining a subscription scheme. Only if sufficient numbers sign up will a scheme be viable.

``I urge all those who have not already done so to return their expression of interest forms to the Assembly.

``The farming unions have been very supportive of a joint-funded scheme and I thank them for their efforts to encourage farmers to respond.''

If the scheme fails to get off the ground, farmers will have to make their own carcass disposal arrangements, which could prove costly for many.
