communities, utilizes an INIT Managed Hosting solution to support its CaraSyst Web application, which provides caregivers with immediate access to resident medical and social information. Interliant's INIT Managed Hosting solutions provide the infrastructure support necessary to successfully implement Web-based applications requiring the highest degree of security, scalability, and processing power.

CaraVita operates 18 assisted living communities throughout the southeastern United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . In their nine locations with high-speed Internet access, CaraVita relies on the CaraSyst Web application to enhance overall care to the resident population. With the CaraSyst application, caregivers use hand-held PCs that connect to the system via a wireless LAN to Interliant's server, giving each caregiver an immediate, live connection to residents' medical and social data anywhere within the facility. Taking advantage of the "available everywhere" nature of the Web, directors at each of the facilities and corporate management can monitor and respond to issues remotely.

Hosted in one of Interliant's state-of-the-art data centers, the CaraVita solution consists of a Dell dedicated Microsoft Windows 2000 server with Microsoft SQL SQL

As part of the INIT Managed Hosting solution, Interliant provides CaraVita with a full-service managed hosting platform that includes a dedicated server, 24x7 support, and a secure and reliable physical environment. In addition, Interliant tailored the solution to comply with Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1996.

HIPAA, passed in 1996, requires medical organizations to adopt national uniform standards for the electronic transmission of certain types of health information.

"The CaraSyst application is a key component of our business plan, and we had to have a reliable and cost-effective implementation," said Sandy Gettings, chief information officer, CaraVita Senior Care Management. "We did not want to endure the problems typically associated with building and supporting a highly reliable and secure Web host environment ourselves. After researching numerous ASPs, we selected Interliant based on existing customer references, reasonable costs, and a willingness to support HIPAA requirements. Interliant was an easy choice for us."

"Interliant is dedicated to developing solutions that meet the unique requirements of organizations such as CaraVita," said Steve Munroe, Interliant COO. "Our INIT Managed Hosting solution allows CaraVita to focus on delivering top-notch care to its residents rather than having to worry about maintaining their IT infrastructure. We have the ability to grow with CaraVita, protect their information, and offer them capabilities that typically would be too expensive or time consuming for them to implement and manage in-house."
