, will use SynQuest software to create production schedules that will provide the freshest possible meals at the most economical production costs. With more than 500,000 changes to orders per day, the maker of airline meals will use SynQuest software's real-time execution capability to track changing meal counts and configurations for all flights, up to five minutes before the aircraft is ready to depart. Cara anticipates significant improvements in operating efficiencies and customer satisfaction.

"We are committed to providing our customers with the right number of high-quality, fresh meals, on time on every flight," said Fred Cress, senior vice president of Cara Airport Services. "SynQuest software will help us financially optimize production by giving us the information we need to determine the financial impact of various supply chain planning scenarios. For example, if lemon pepper chicken is on one line, SynQuest will provide a plan that recommends the right number of lemon pepper chicken meals on that line, taking into account all the appropriate financial and customer service variables."

According to Chris Jones, SynQuest senior vice president of marketing and corporate development, "By combining supply chain planning with collaborative execution, SynQuest software will provide Cara with an end-to-end solution that provides real-time visibility into customer needs and supplier production, plus the ability to handle the volume of instant changes. It also will automatically provide real-time meal- consumed data to J.D. Edwards OneWorld(tm) software, allowing a further analysis of operational and financial performance."

SynQuest supply chain software will provide this information to OneWorld through the industry's first event-based standard integration of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) An integrated information system that serves all departments within an enterprise. Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies the use of packaged software rather than proprietary software written by or for one customer.  and APS applications. The integration also will allow Cara to import orders directly from OneWorld into SynQuest software, where SynQuest can then optimize these orders based on combinations of weighted business criteria, such as minimizing cost or maximizing throughput, revenue or on-time delivery. As business conditions change, Cara will use SynQuest to dynamically re-plan, immediately resolving problems and seizing opportunities for performance improvements. This will allow Cara to take the guesswork out of which job to run next for the freshest possible meals, just in time to meet on-time departures.
