Car sales in a skid; CREDIT CRUNCH CRISIS MOTORS.

THE sale of new cars in Ireland plunged last month by more than half, figures revealed yesterday.

Sales fell by 55 per cent to 1,748 cars in October from 3,849 for the same month last year.

And sales for the first 10 months of the year were 18 per cent down on the same period last year - from 184,394 to 150,790- the Society of the Irish Motor Industry reported.

 chief Alan Nolan said 2,000 jobs had been lost and he called on the Government to clampdown on illegal roadside car sellers.
