Car bomb found near to school.


A LETHAL 300lb car bomb has been discovered close to a primary school, police revealed last night.

The home-made device was hidden in the back of a black Volkswagen Bora in the village of Castlewellan, Northern Ireland Northern Ireland: see Ireland, Northern.

Police and army disposal experts carried out tests on the vehicle after a telephone bomb warning was received.

The caller claimed the bomb was originally intended for the nearby British army The British Army is the land armed forces branch of the British Armed Forces. It came into being with unification of the governments and armed forces of England and Scotland into the United Kingdom of Great Britain in 1707.  base at Ballykinler, but had been abandoned.

The car was parked in the Co Down village's Dublin Road on Tuesday, close to the primary school. But news of the discovery was kept quiet while cops investigated.

 said the road was used regularly by pupils, parents and teachers.

"The people who carried this out showed a callous disregard for the lives of everyone in our community," he said. "They planted a large viable device in a car, abandoned it in an area close to local houses and schools, and then phoned through vague warnings about the locality and nature of the threat.

"They placed the lives of every man, woman and child in the area at risk.

"Those who operate under various flags of convenience are simply terrorists and criminals who wish to drag everyone back to the dark days of the past by using violence as a so-called political tool."
