Captovation Releases ecCheckScan for eCapture; New Software Program Provides eCapture with Check-Imaging Capability.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers AIIM (Association for Information and Image Management International, Silver Spring, MD, www.aiim.org) A membership organization founded in 1943 devoted to creating industry standards and disseminating information about the document management industry. 2003 Booth 1957 MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 2003 Captovation, a leading provider of production-level and browser-based document capture software, has officially released ecCheckScan for eCapture. ecCheckScan is the newest addition to the eCapture suite of document capture modules, and will provide users with an interface to electronically capture the image and MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) The machine recognition of numeric data printed with magnetically charged ink. It is used on bank checks and deposit slips. MICR readers detect the characters and convert them into digital data. "ecCheckScan is an excellent addition to our eCapture product suite that allows us to further diversify our total product offering," said Ken Peterka, Captovation's President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "We are very excited to provide our resellers and customers with a robust and affordable check scanning solution." This first version of ecCheckScan supports the TellerScan and Buic check scanners provided by Digital Check Corporation (www.digitalcheck.com). These scanners range in speeds from the manually fed TS200, to the 90 checks per minute TS400E. These scanners are all under $5000, and do not require a third-party scanner driver to interface with ecCheckScan. "ecCheckScan's intuitive interface and unique architecture provides an excellent method to capture check images and MICR data," said Mark Vose, National Accounts Manager at Digital Check Corporation. "The program easily integrates with our check scanners and provides customers with a robust solution to scan and archive check images." Traditionally, banks and other financial institutions have implemented microfilm systems to store/retain check images. Although microfilm provides a reliable method to "back up" hard copy documents, the labor and hardware costs associated with such systems is fairly expensive and the actual microfilm process can be very time-consuming. Conversely, ecCheckScan offers electronic check imaging that is not only faster when compared to microfilming but also more efficient. ecCheckScan uses the check scanner's built-in MICR reader to capture the MICR data off of checks. MICR data typically includes a Routing Number, Account Number, Check Number and Check Amount. During the scanning process, this data is automatically parsed into index fields within eCapture. After scanning is complete, the check images and index data can be stored in virtually any ECM system. Since ecCheckScan was built on eCapture's architecture, it automatically inherits all the ECM systems integrations supported by eCapture. eCapture integrations (provided free from Captovation) currently exist for such systems as Optika Acorde, DocuWare, Microsoft SharePoint, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. ecCheckScan can be used independently, but it can also be implemented to complement other eCapture modules. For example, ecCheckScan can be implemented with ecIndex, eCapture's production-level indexing module, to provide enhanced indexing Enhanced indexing Also called indexing-plus, an indexing strategy whose objective is to exceed or replicate the total return performance of some predetermined index. enhanced indexing capabilities such as external database queries to obtain additional index data. The program is also VBA-compatible, meaning it can be further customized to fit the customer's exact business needs. Captovation will be demonstrating ecCheckScan and the entire eCapture production line in booth number 1957 at the 2003 AIIM Exposition and Conference in New York City New York City: see New York, city.
