Captovation Announces Integration Between eCapture and Microsoft's SharePoint Portal Server 2003.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 2004

Captovation, a leading provider of production-level document and distributed capture software for electronic document/content management systems, announced today direct integration support between their flagship eCapture(TM) software, and Microsoft(R) Office SharePoint Portal Server (1) A network server that deploys portal services to a public Web site or internal intranet. See portal.

(2) An application that is used to develop, deliver and maintain a Web portal.
2003. eCapture and SharePoint can be integrated to provide users with a complete document management solution, which includes document capture, archiving, as well as search and retrieval capabilities.

SharePoint Portal Server 2003 integrates information from various systems into one solution. The portal facilitates end-to-end collaboration by enabling aggregation, organization, and search capabilities for people, teams, and information. It allows users to deploy an out-of-the box portal solution that can find, create, and share all of a company's mission critical data.

Although SharePoint provides an efficient method of storing and collaborating on vital company information; it lacks a streamlined user interface for document capture. With eCapture's integration, SharePoint users can easily scan and index paper documents directly into a SharePoint repository. The integration is facilitated through an eCapture Data Provider (EDP (Electronic Data Processing) The first name used for the computer field.

), developed by Captovation and available at no additional charge, which transfers document images from eCapture and places them into a SharePoint repository. The eCapture component's ecIndex, ecAutoFile Server, ecCommit Server, ecImport Server, ecNet Server and Captovation(R) Check Capture are all capable of performing a document commit (archive) into SharePoint.

Captovation's direct integration support for SharePoint Portal Server 2003 is unique because it utilizes XML-based Web Services (1) Loosely, any online service delivered over the Web. Such usage appears in articles from non-technical sources, but not in IT-oriented publications, because definition #2 below describes the correct use of the term.  to link eCapture users with a SharePoint Portal Server system. Markup language developed to be a simplified and more structural version of SGML. It incorporates features of HTML (e.g., hypertext linking), but is designed to overcome some of HTML's limitations.

) is used to structure the data between an eCapture system and SharePoint, and thus provides an easy way for the two applications to communicate. eCapture and SharePoint do not need to be on the same local network to interact with one another. After scanning and indexing documents with eCapture, the images and data can be sent over the Internet to a SharePoint server anywhere in the world.

"We are proud to be one of the first document capture companies to integrate with SharePoint 2003," said Ken Peterka, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Captovation, Inc. "Our integration with SharePoint's Web Services allows for greater deployment flexibility."

The integration includes a SharePoint Template Manager, which allows an administrator to define field mappings between eCapture and SharePoint. On a per template basis, an administrator specifies the URL URL

After connecting, the SharePoint Template Manager retrieves all available user lists and respective field names. The administrator then correlates field names in SharePoint with available fields in eCapture. Upon commit, the images are converted to either Multiple Page TIFFs (tagged image file format (file format, graphics) Tagged Image File Format - (TIFF) A file format used for still-image bitmaps, stored in tagged fields. Application programs can use the tags to accept or ignore fields, depending on their capabilities. ) or PDFs (portable document format (file format) Portable Document Format - (PDF) The native file format for Adobe Systems' Acrobat. PDF is the file format for representing documents in a manner that is independent of the original application software, hardware, and operating system used to create those documents. ).
