Captives in Bermuda.

On behalf of the 46 individual captive captive

management companies that comprise the membership of the Bermuda Bermuda (bûrmy`də), British dependency (2005 est. pop. 65,400), 21 sq mi (53 sq km), comprising some 150 coral rocks, islets, and islands (of which some 20 are inhabited), in the  Insurance Management Association, it is my pleasure to welcome you to this year's Bermuda Captive Conference. When the organizing committee embarked on the planning for last year's inaugural conference, we were quietly confident that the event would be well supported. However, the actual attendance of over 300 delegates, of which over 100 were captive owners or prospective owners, surpassed our wildest expectations. We were extremely pleased with the support from both the government as well as the multiple sponsor companies, without whom the event would not have been possible. Of course, with last year's success, comes even greater expectation for 2006. I am pleased to say that you will not be disappointed. This year's event looks just as exciting and early indications show attendance will be even higher than 2005.

One feature of last year's conference was the introduction of the concept of the Bermuda Captive Owners Association (BCOA BCOA Basenji Club of America (dog breed)
BCOA Borzoi Club of America Inc. (Ohio)
BCOA Beverly Council on Aging (Massachusetts)

The BCOA has established several goals and objectives but all essentially focus on one thing--to promote Bermuda as a captive domicile domicile (dŏm`əsīl'), one's legal residence. This may or may not be the place where one actually resides at any one time. The domicile is the permanent home to which one is presumed to have the intention of returning whenever the purpose  and to look after the interests of our most important asset--our clients. Through regular dialogue and meetings, there will be interaction among members, with government, BIMA BIMA British Interactive Media Association (UK)

important to note that by definition, BCOA is a captive "owners" association so I encourage you to participate by joining--after all, one of the benefits of membership is a free subscription to the Captive Conference! During your conference visit, please feel free to contact one of the officers who will be only too happy to answer any questions you may have.

This is an exciting time in the development of Bermuda as a true "insurance center" and the captive industry continues to be an integral and important part of this success. We encourage your active participation in the conference sessions as well as the numerous networking opportunities over the coming week. Enjoy your stay in Bermuda and thank you for your continued support.
