eScan provides a web-based, thin-client environment for document scanning, importing and indexing. By using eScan with InputAccel(R), Captiva's award-winning document capture software, organizations can create an enterprise-level capture solution by distributing tasks across physical sites - regardless of their geographic locations - by providing remote users the ability to send images and index information without installing scan client applications, thereby minimizing deployment, support and maintenance costs.

"Companies with multiple locations, remote agents or offsite employees can reduce costs with eScan by assigning labor-intensive tasks, such as document scanning, to locations where it is most economically sensible, and establish the secure transmission of the electronic information to a central location for processing," said Jim Vickers, Captiva's Chief Marketing Officer. "eScan was developed in response to customer requests to further streamline the capture and submission of documents and other information in the field. With eScan, companies can reduce postage, shipping and other costs, and decrease document processing Processing text documents, which includes indexing methods for text retrieval based on content. Industry analysts confirm that demand for distributed capture is expected to grow in the years ahead. "As more companies become dispersed dis·perse

with regional offices and remote employees, as well as through merger activities, distributed capture will become more essential in ensuring information is captured closer to customer interaction and at its point of origin," said Andy Warzecha, Senior Vice President and Service Director at META Group. "The ability to capture documents remotely and deliver them into a central repository saves time, reduces errors, eliminates shipping costs and increases efficiency. These benefits are driving IT investment in this realm and solutions that can deliver value in this arena should gain significant increasing traction in the market."
