Captiva Software Captiva Software is now part of EMC Software Group, a division of EMC Corporation.[1] Captiva makes software solutions for document information processing and data capture from paper and electronic documents and provides related services.  Corporation, the market leader in enterprise information capture software, today announces the release of FormWare(TM) 3.0. This version includes fully integrated Internet forms, XML XML

data processing, distributed scanning via the Internet and free form recognition technology, and adds many new rapid application development tools to FormWare's award winning forms processing and document capture capabilities.

FormWare is a modular, highly scalable solution that automates data capture from forms and documents, in addition to scanning, enhancing and indexing images. This business critical information can then be exported to database, document and other information management systems, maximizing the value of the data, speeding the capture process and increasing productivity.

"Today's organizations require a comprehensive solution for managing information into the enterprise, and FormWare 3.0 offers the ability to capture information from any source," said Reynolds C. "FormWare 3.0 adds many Internet capabilities to FormWare's architecture, allowing our customers to leverage a single information capture platform for both paper and electronic data while consistently applying the business rules needed to ensure the validity of all data captured."

Internet Forms (I-Forms)

FormWare's I-Forms capability provides an easy way for users to extend data capture to the web and takes advantage of the Internet as an extremely cost effective platform for data capture. FormWare's Designer module is used to design robust and highly interactive DHTML See Dynamic HTML.

document. As users enter data into an I-Form, extensive real time edits catch errors as each field is completed and customized error messages prompt users to correct their mistakes, thus minimizing frustration and web site abandonment rates. As each page is submitted, FormWare's I-Forms web server collects the data entered, executes additional data validation routines to ensure accuracy, provides the user with a unique transaction confirmation number and inputs the resulting data into FormWare's standard workflow for additional processing alongside paper based transactions and eventual export to a customer's information management systems.

XML Data Processing

(XML) format is an emerging standard for structuring data that allows XML enabled software products to exchange electronic data without extensive and costly custom application development and maintenance. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C (World Wide Web Consortium, www.w3.org) An international industry consortium founded in 1994 by Tim Berners-Lee to develop standards for the Web. It is hosted in the U.S. by the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) at MIT (www.csail.mit.edu/index.php). ) formally recommended it as a standard in February 1998 and since then a number of industry leaders, including Microsoft, SAP, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , Sun and Oracle, have announced support for XML. Many believe this standard will drive the rapid adoption of XML based replacements for current EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) The electronic communication of business transactions, such as orders, confirmations and invoices, between organizations. Third parties provide EDI services that enable organizations with different equipment to connect.  applications, demand for data in an XML format and the open integration of applications across enterprises in general. FormWare 3.0 enables data capture from Internet forms, e-commerce transactions and other electronic data sources in an XML format and the ability to export data in a XML format, regardless of its source. This lets customers leverage their business rules in order to also purify XML data streams and to populate databases and other repositories with data in this popular format.

Distributed Scanning

Many organizations have widely distributed operations and would like to be able to scan forms and documents locally at those remote sites, thus eliminating the need to transport paper to a centralized scanning facility. FormWare 3.0's distributed scanning capabilities allow for a remote scanclient to be installed and run as a separate process at those locations. As forms and documents are scanned, the resulting files are bundled up and sent to the receiving site where a FormWare remote scan server receives and inputs those files into FormWare's standard workflow for additional processing. High-speed links utilizing Internet protocols allow for low cost transmission from virtually any location.

Free Form Recognition

FormWare 3.0's free form recognition technology provides the ability to locate data on complex forms without defining a unique template for each form type. It is particularly appropriate for forms that contain the same data to be extracted but in varying positions, such as invoices, purchase orders, explanation of benefits forms and dental claims. A free form field is specified and data is located by looking for Looking for

In the context of general equities, this describing a buy interest in which a dealer is asked to offer stock, often involving a capital commitment. Antithesis of in touch with.
a key word or data pattern, such as "invoice number," and FormWare will automatically locate, extract and validate data.

Al Wiggins, Regional Vice President of Lason, Inc., who has installed and tested the free form recognition features of FormWare 3.0, has been very impressed with its capabilities. "At Lason, we are extremely excited about FormWare's free form recognition technology," said Wiggins. "It brings tremendous value to some of our present applications as well as opening the doors of opportunity for significant volumes of new data capture business."

Requirements, Pricing and Availability

FormWare 3.0 runs on Windows 9X and NT in a desktop or client/server architecture that supports both Microsoft's NT Server and Novell's NetWare. An Intel 400MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock.
